As leaders, we face many conundrums. Speed fears quality fears speed. Compassion fears accountability fears compassion. Mastery fears breadth fears mastery. You can name the ones that plague you the most.
The big question is this – what must we do as leaders to hold within ourselves the truth of both sides of these issues? It’s easy to pick one or the other, harder to hold that both have value at the same time.
It’s conundrums like these that are one of the big reasons that leadership is an inside job. The most challenging leadership relationship we have is the one with ourselves. When we do the hard work there, much more is possible in leading others.
